As a parent, I know that it can be difficult to find educational resources that are both fun and informative for young children. That’s why I’m excited to share this free printable with you! This little book is a great way to introduce different 12 different biomes to kids from preschool to kindergarten and first grade. They can color in the pictures, trace the letters, and learn about different biomes like the arctic, desert, forest, beach, cave, mountains, and ocean. Get your free printable today!

Why Biomes are Important
One of the reasons why biomes are so important is because they help us understand how different plants and animals are adapted to their environment. For example, did you know that cacti store water in their stems? That’s because they live in dry desert climates where water is scarce. Or did you know that penguins have thick layers of feathers to insulate them from the cold? That’s because they live in frigid polar climates. By understanding how different plants and animals are adapted to their environment, we can better appreciate the amazing biodiversity of our planet.
Learning about biomes is also a great way for kids to develop an appreciation for different cultures and lifestyles. Did you know that people actually live in some of the harshest environments on Earth? For example, there are indigenous peoples who live in the Arctic tundra and subsist primarily on hunting and fishing. And there are also people who live in hot deserts where temperatures can reach over 120 degrees Fahrenheit! By learning about different biomes, we can better understand and appreciate the diversity of human culture as well.
How to Use This Free Educational Biomes Printable
This printable is super simple to use. Just print it out, cut along the dotted lines and you’re good to go! I like to laminate mine and put them together with a hole punch and metal ring so that it lasts longer, but that’s optional.
The kiddos can color in each biome, and trace the letters to spell the name of the biome. While they’re coloring in each biome, talk about the different environments! What makes them special? Are they places you think you could survive? How would you have to adapt to living there?
As a special bonus activity once you’ve finished this free printable. Consider finding animal stickers and having your child stick each animal sticker in the biome where they believe each animal would live.
