Maternity Jean Try On + Review
Ok y’all. You gave me your favorite maternity jean recommendations. You told me what you loved and what you hated. And I ordered to try them out myself. Here, I’ll be trying on all different maternity jeans, at all different price points, and giving my honest feedback on everything. We’ll go over fit, denim, stretch, quality, and more. And I’ll make sure to tell you my feedback on sizing as well. I know how hard it can be to go try on maternity clothing in stores if you already have kids, so hopefully this helps you feel more confident in your online orders!
MADEWELL maternity jean try on:
First try on: the adjustable skinny pair with raw hems. These were surprisingly comfortable, but I wish I had ordered a size down. I went with a 30 because of my hip measurements, but within about 10 minutes of walking around Costco I found myself needing to hike them up. When I asked around, it seems like everyone sized down and got their perfect fit! So even if you have wider hips like me, go down. Denim is super soft and comfy, love the exaggerated raw hem, but a little on the too short of a length for me side.
Second pair: the basic dark wash skinny. And I’M IN LOVE. These are legitimately the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever put on my body, ha. Everything is perfect – the stretch, the softness of the denim, the cut, the fit, everything. I did size down to a 29 in these and am so glad I did! They are a full panel, but way more comfy than any Old Navy / Target full panel I’ve tried and actually stayed up.
Third pair: the over the belly black distressed pair. First world problems, when you cant decide whether you love these or the Tencel dark wash skinnies more! SO comfortable, they’re just amazing. I feel like this color is really versatile – kind of a not black but not totally gray. And I love the very slight distressing just in the knee area. They are SO flattering and I totally get the Madewell jean hype. I went with a 29 in these, so def size down!
PAIGE denim maternity jean try on:
First pair tried: the Verdugo Dark Wash Skinnies. And they are AMAZING. The denim is thick, without being stiff, and I could definitely see them being incredible for both pregnancy and postpartum. Love the stretch, but definitely size down! I tried a 30, and they were a little loose, so I’m going to try a 29 and see if I get a more snug fit.
TARGET maternity jean try on:
First pair tried: these slightly cropped pair. Just not meant for women with wide hips and thighs. I sized down to a 29, per reviews saying they ran a little big. However, they are still way too big in my hips, and fall down as I walk around. I feel like these would be far better for a more slender pregnant woman? Or possibly if you don’t carry much weight in your hips and thighs? It seems like they just aren’t meant for a woman with curves nor a woman who is bottom heavy. The fading is not flattering for wide thighs – the color gets way lighter (hard to tell in photos)right where I’m widest. I know they’re under $30, I wanted to love them. But, just, no.
Second pair tried: this basic black pair that have amazing reviews. Overall, they’re ok. I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them either. They are WAY better than the first pair tried, and the denim feels a little different too. I love that they’re a true black – no distressing, no fading / whiskering / weird details. I also picked these up in a 29, because reviews said they run a little big. They do fit better than the pair above, but are still a little too big in the waistband. Unfortunately, I don’t think a 28 will work for me in these, so they’re a return.
