I know I’ve already shared a few photos from my maternity photoshoots before. But I can’t believe I left this one out! Talk about feeling like a beautiful princess, holy cow. Edith, of ELM Photography Idaho took me to the Idaho Penitentiary this time around for my maternity photos. And it was SO perfect! The flowers, the greenery, the grasses and stone and architecture. Yes, yes, yes.
Thankfully, Edith is not only a talented photographer, but a licensed hair and makeup artist as well. Which also meant that not only did I get fantastic pictures of my pregnant self, but I got dolled up too! Because the dress was so light and ethereal, Edith wanted to do something dramatic with my photoshoot makeup. She gave me the most gorgeous smoky eyes and dark lip that would not quit (in the best way possible). And she made my hair look perfectly coifed with beautifully soft curls.

Sew Trendy Accessories Sheer Bailey Maternity Gown
This. Dress. Is. Perfection. Seriously. I am not a fan of showing my pregnant belly. Like, ever. I’m fine when others do it, but it just seems so intimate for myself. I know a pregnant belly is like a photographer’s best friend, so this Sheer Bailey Maternity Gown from Sew Trendy Accessories is like the best of both worlds. It lets me show off my belly in a sheer drapey fabric without making me feel overexposed. Plus, the champagne color is so perfect for any maternity shoot, any time of year. I felt like a beautiful fairy princess!
Old Idaho Penitentiary + Idaho Botanical Gardens
The Old Idaho Penitentiary is right next door to the Idaho Botanical Gardens. This makes for a very interesting mix of hard stone and soft florals. Which is basically the perfect background! I love all the original metal and stone that’s in the area, and the history that goes along with it. It’s kind of funny to think that here I am, standing in an area that was constructed for criminals in 1872, some 145 years later, with a big ole belly and in a fancy gown. I highly recommend taking family or maternity pictures here if you can. There are so many beautiful areas to walk around and that are all open to the public!
I love love love these photos so much, and will forever treasure each maternity shoot that I’ve done. This was a rainbow pregnancy for me, which came with a lot of conflicting and scary feelings. It was more important than ever, to me, to document this time in my life. Although uncertain and hormonal, this is and was full of emotion and hope. If you haven’t yet, please check out the last two maternity shoots that I did with ELM Photography Idaho to document my pregnancy after a miscarriage:
