A master bedroom makeover:

It’s officially Fall, y’all! The leaves have almost all turned, the weather is getting crisp, and pumpkin everything has hit hard. Now that the heat is behind us, my poor neglected master bedroom has been given a total facelift. Last month I focused on our master bathroom redo, and this month I decided our room deserved a makeover as well. 

Our master bedroom is probably second only to the kitchen in terms of being the center of our home. Our boys always end up in bed with us at night, its where we all get dressed and ready for the day, and its one of my favorite places to snuggle with my family. The master has always kind of gotten the short end of the stick. Because its not a public entertaining area, it kept getting pushed to the back burner.

But this Fall we’re getting things done, and giving everything a huge refresh with Febreze ONE. 

As you can see from the photos, the before picture is pretty sad. The walls are boring, we don’t have any decorations up, and the room was just BLAH. Bland, dull, uninspired. Our master bedroom was all of the above, and then some. My husband loved what I did in our master bathroom so much he gave me free reign on this DIY master bedroom makeover. The only caveat? I had to stick to the budget.

Inspired again by my Febreze ONE bamboo scent, I knew I wanted a master bedroom that felt like an oasis. I want to walk into our bedroom and feel calm, relaxed, and happy. And I can definitely say that all those ring true. Now, I love our room. It feels like a retreat from the everyday hustle and bustle. 

This is easily the busiest time of year for us. With birthdays, lots of traveling for work, holidays, PreSchool, and more, free time is not readily available. So all this master bedroom makeover has happened after dropping off my oldest at school and while my youngest is napping. And if you follow me on Instagram, you know those naps don’t last very long! But I digress. Honestly, it’s hard to find the motivation to get things done when I finally have a moment of peace. But seeing the instant transformation as it’s happening, and with the refreshing scent of Febreze ONE bamboo, I forged on.

Clean, earthy master bedroom inspiration.

I love how one little pump of the nozzle gives me the perfect spritz. One pump is the perfect amount to get me going and to fill the room with the clean and earthy scent that gave me the first inspiration for this room makeover. My husband was shocked when I asked him how he felt about a green accent wall. My usual aesthetic is “clean, simple, white”, but there was something about the greens of the bamboo that I just felt drawn to. 

Because I went so bold with the gorgeous green wall in our master bedroom retreat, I wanted to make sure the rest of the room didn’t clash. But that doesn’t mean we kept things boring! Playing with textures and patterns is the easiest way to do this. Armed with an idea in mind, and lots of pursuing Pinterest, I “shopped” in our garage and my favorite thrift stores. The clearance section at Target and Ikea were enough to finish out the design. And best of all, I came in under budget!

Our pitbull is happiest when he’s sleeping with us, but sometimes he reeks to high heaven. And because he’s sleeping on top of our covers, his stench is left behind.
