How to create a serene DIY bathroom setting.

We moved into our new build 10 months ago, and have been slowly but surely making updates to it as we can. Because life is so up in the air with my husband’s job and possibility of relocation at a moment’s notice, it’s hard to get too into making this place a home. And yet, staring at these blank and boring walls has gotten old. My decorating bug has bitten hard and I am in desperate need of a space that’s just mine. A space where I can go and get some unadulterated rest and relaxation, with no kiddos, no husband, and complete silence.

When drawing inspiration for my ensuite master bathroom re-do, my favorite Febreze ONE scent, bamboo, was at the forefront of my mind. The bamboo Febreze ONE is the perfect light, spa scent. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mandarin and orchid delicious smelling varieties, but theres something extra relaxing about bamboo. From the moment I press down on the handle, to the second the aroma is released, it feels like I’m almost in a high end expensive spa. But far more budget friendly! And what spa do you know that opens at 9pm and doesn’t require a babysitter? None I’ve ever heard of!

Our starting point was a great blank slate.

The walls are a light creamy beige, and our floor tiles are your typical builder grade boring cream marbel-esque. This room has been begging for a custom bathroom makeover! So we did what any other middle class family would do. I searched Pinterest, looked at my favorite home goods websites, and then went to Ikea and Home Depot to create my own bathroom oasis. Using things we already had in the house (okay, let’s be honest, I definitely scrounged around in my garage for trinkets), as well as the Febreze ONE Bamboo scent, I got to work!

After creating the shelves, I played around with placement and scale. The biggest thing I wanted to do was to bring in greenery and a feeling of serenity. And I think we accomplished that! I love that I can merge sweet little pieces that have been passed down to me from my grandparents and family members, to bring me peace and love while I indulge in some “me time”.

Because my biggest inspiration was the light and fresh scent of Febreze ONE‘s bamboo scent, I wanted to keep the shelving and walls the same. I wanted to look at the DIY bathroom shelves and the decorations and feel… happy and light. And now I do. 

I used natural and light elements as much as possible.

Clean, green, natural, and happy were my key words when finding pieces to place. I found the perfect live bamboo stalks, both straight and twisted, to keep the Febreze ONE bamboo theme going. I remember WAY back when, when I used to be able to go to the spa at a moments notice, with no need to make an appointment or spend more dollars than our budget allowed. Life doesn’t allow for that kind of frivolous spontaneity any more, so I have to adapt.

Now, whenever I enter our bathroom, I just get this feeling of ease and relaxation. Which was exactly my goal! Even friends who come over have opened the door and said “wow, this feels like a bathroom oasis”. Which is EXACTLY what I was going for! 

I’m not going to lie, this is a picture heavy post. But my goodness, when a room in your home makes you this happy, wouldn’t you take a million pictures too?! So without further ado, here’s how I made our ensuite master full bathroom into a DIY relaxing bathroom oasis on a budget, with Febreze ONE bamboo.
