I talk about breastfeeding and my nursing journey with both of my boys all the time. There is so much information out there on ways to boost your supply, how to check for a tongue or lip tie, advice on pumping, and more and more. But what about ways to maximize the benefits of breastfeeding? For you AND for baby?
Add probiotics to maximize the benefits of breastfeeding
Breastfeeding has been scientifically proven to be an incredible powerhouse for newborns and toddlers alike. There’s a reason they call breastmilk liquid gold – it’s invaluable to both the mother and child. But one thing that can maximize the benefits of breastfeeding? Probiotics.
Think about it – gut health is incredibly important for myself as an adult – why wouldn’t it be just as important for my baby? You may remember about two months ago when I shared that we had started J on Evivo – the best probiotics for babies. I’m about to be really honest with you right now. After that post was published, I was in a really difficult place. A dark place. And I kind of let it all go as a result. And do you want to know what happened? J’s sleep got worse. He got more ornery. He became more gassy. He started crying more. And sleeping less. And there are so many grunts. So many. Did I mention his sleep started getting worse (which I didn’t think was possible)?
I have been researching left and right about ways to improve his sleep without sleep training.
And do you want to know something super interesting that I discovered? Gut health is directly related to sleep health! A healthy gut helps to reduce feelings of stress and improve mood in myself as an adult, and since starting J back on his probiotics 4 days ago, each day seems to get better and better for J. And do you want to know the best news of all?
My sleep HATING baby SLEPT 9 HOURS STRAIGHT LAST NIGHT. Don’t think that’s a big deal for an 11.5 month old baby? Think again. I am usually in his room every 1.5 – 2 hours at night. Up, rocking and nursing. Rocking and nursing. I will put him down and beg over his sleeping body that he sleeps long enough for me to get some much needed rest. But alas, that hasn’t been the case for him. Instead, he wakes all the time and is miserable, and needs to nurse again and again and again.
Until we started the best probiotics for babies.
Evivo has been clinically proven, just like breastmilk, to benefit babies.
Evivo helps ensure that my breastmilk is benefitting baby J in the best way possible. As I’ve mentioned before, breastmilk actually encourages friendly bacteria (like B. infantis, we like those), and contains probiotics. However, recent studies have shown that not all moms today are passing the awesome powerhouse B. infantis to their babies. And in fact most moms actually lack it themselves! B. infantis is what helps prevent eczema, allergies, obesity and diabetes, and what helps keep disease causing bacteria, like E. coli, from growing and attaching to the intestines and causing an infection. None of which we want for our kiddos!
The first six months of your baby’s life is the ideal time to establish this habit for their gut health.
By using the best probiotic for infants, I am helping to restore baby J’s gut back to it’s natural state. Every day, we mix a sachet of Evivo with a few mL of breastmilk and give it to J. This simple act helps to boost and release the nutrients in my breastmilk. By doing this, we are developing his immune system, creating a protective internal environment, and building the foundation for his future health.

Same! I wish I had known about the benefits earlier! Our whole family is on them now, though 🙂
These are some of the sweetest nursing photos ever! I *think* we’re likely done having babies, but if we’re not, I definitely plan to use probiotics with our next little one. So many health benefits!
