Scrolling through my pictures this past week has been a gold mine for memories. Around this time last year, H and I were getting our photographs taken by the beautiful Boise River by Tabby of Tabby Photography to commemorate a huge part of our lives: baby wearing!
Babywearing is something I knew I wanted to do with H as soon as I discovered it in my insomnia-induced late night Pinterest-ing. I carried H for 39 weeks, safe and warm in my belly, and everything I was reading and researching was reinforcing the idea of a ‘4th trimester’, something I had never heard of. Joining this bright and loud world has to be rough on a tiny little one, especially when he’s used to dark and drowned out noises, and feeling snug. The 4th trimester explained SO much of what I was experiencing with H as a new mother, especially in the first few months.
I am very fortunate in that the Hubs and I were (and are) able to make me staying at home work, but it also means long and taxing days, ones that were full of infant neediness and ones that have now been replaced with toddler neediness. Even with all the tears and angst, I love this time in my motherhood journey where I am able to scoop H up and hold him close to me and he is immediately calmed and soothed. For the first 6 months of his life, H would only nap if he was touching me in some way and my wraps, quite literally, saved my sanity. I was going mad and getting so frustrated over the fact that I wasn’t able to be the housewife I had expected myself to be and rarely changed out of my pajamas from the night before until after Zach got home.
Enter baby wearing.
Thanks to the Solly Wrap, I was able to get in my skin to skin time and bond with him, help him get the sleep he so desperately needed, and not be completely confined to the rocking chair or bed. I also got really well acquainted with all of our local Target’s aisles, and got in a little bit of trouble in their children’s sections – but seriously, how does any person walk away from all of the adorable onesies and goodies? Baby sized everything just melts my heart!
After I realized what a blessing the Solly Wrap was, I started researching more and fell down the baby wearing rabbit hole. I started out with a Moby which I quickly replaced with two Solly Wraps and ended up adding an Ergo, a Lillebaby, a Ring Sling and a Didymos Katja size 6 Woven Wrap to my collection! Now that H is almost 21 months (AKA: a year and 3/4), we are strictly using our Lillebaby carriers because the lumbar support is the only way I can manage wearing a 28 pound toddler for hours on end when he’s having a rough day and needs his mama.
To say that baby wearing has been such a huge part of our lives the past almost two years would be a vast understatement. Babywearing has, quite literally, saved my sanity and I am so glad to have this small documentation of it! This was actually our last time using the Solly Wrap, as H was almost to the maximum weight, so these pictures will forever hold a special place in my heart, just like these sweet captures from Tabby.

I got a carrier with my first and we never used it – with him being the first grandchild there was always someone around to hold him. When our second came along we invested in a huggaloops (love it!) but I didn't use it as much as I thought as my oldest was walking (there's a 3 year gap) with my current baby I use my huggaloops or boba so much! It makes life easier with a 15 month and 4 month old. My husband loves babywearing too!!!!

It is totally for fall season, colorful and handy. I did not use any wear when my little one was younger, only because of my back, it cannot handle this.
