One of the things I love about where we live, is everything that our local town has to offer. Every weekend is jam packed with events, and now that the Hubs is back to a traditional work week, and H is finally down to one nap a day vs two, it feels like there is so much more time to take advantage of it all!
There were several Oktoberfest-type celebrations going on, and a few were even family friendly and started early enough that we were able to take H along – yay! High fives to Lillebaby for letting this mama enjoy fun events while hands-free, and for saving us from having to struggle with a stroller in crowds! The Hubs and I indulged in a few tastings of some of the local breweries, and found some new favorites, and of course, with beer comes… tacos? Boise is really stepping up it’s food game, and we have some awesome local restaurants and food trucks that serve some awesome dishes at pretty reasonable prices. Half the fun of taking advantage of Boise’s weekend scene is enjoying the eats!
One of the good things about a warm late summer this year has been letting H go crazy in the local fountain at the Grove! This little one who used to cry at the sight of the spigots, now lights up and lets out squeals of delight, it’s the best. We had been out so long that it was half an hour past his bedtime and it was showing, but he immediately stopped melting down and ran towards the fountain the second he saw it. Watching him shriek and run and discover and grin from ear to ear was a definite highlight reel moment. His funny little prance that he does when he runs just exudes pure joy.
H learned how to play ‘bags’ at Alefest, and was actually pretty impressive at it – does that make me Mom of the Year? Let me know. We also had to go to Costco, (because Costco on the weekend is my favorite) and while we were there filling up on samples, H fell in love with this ginormous bear. We haven’t really bought him anything ‘new’ in a while, and they were only a third of the price they were at Christmastime last year, so we indulged and they are totally BFFs.
And finally, on Sunday night, after a long day of Estate Sale-ing, the Hubs and I got a date night in! We had my mom over for dinner, and to thank us she let us go see a movie together while she put H to bed. Hubby has been wanting to see Black Mass, so we snuck away for a few hours to check it out. I’m still undecided the movie. I think Johnny Depp was amazing as Whitey, and he was barely recognizable, but for some reason it just felt like Black Mass never really ‘took off’. I’m not saying it was bad, but Im not saying it was great either. I almost want to go back and watch it again, just to see if it gets better the more you watch it? I don’t know. I wanted to love it, but it just didn’t happen.
On the way home from the theatre I looked out my window and saw the gorgeous, and super rare, Super Blood Moon Eclipse and was in awe! The hubs and I sat outside, watching for a little while and I snapped a quick picture – space and science will always amaze me.
I can’t believe that Thursday is October! The end of the year is always super busy for us with birthdays and holidays, and we have so much fun stuff planned for the next few weeks so I know things are about to get even more crazy. H is a total tornado, but he’s becoming his own little ‘self’, and I love it! Yesterday he came up to me, kissed me, hugged me, then pulled back and said ‘kiss?’ and then gave me another kiss and it about melted my face off. I’m not even ashamed to admit that I looked up at Hubs and cried. #Motherhood, y’all. It’s tough stuff and will break even the strongest woman, but it is beautiful and so worth every dang grey hair and lost hour of sleep.
How was your weekend? Did you catch the eclipse?

I tried so hard to catch that blood moon. I caught the "super" part of it, but missed the red. It was a cloudy evening! Your little man was in his element in the water — cute!
