Happy Monday y’all! How were your weekends?
We finally got some rain here after a very long streak of 100+ temperatures and dry weather, so the green is starting to come back out and replace the sad dry brown colors that have been littering lawns and parks alike.
I honestly don’t feel like we got that much done this weekend other than grocery shopping and a little time spent on the driving range, but my goodness we’ve had a lot of laughter and snuggles so I’m counting it as a win! We’re trying to make quality nap times for H more of a priority since the kid struggles hard when he’s tired. Since he’s still at two a day, it’s keeping us home a lot more and forcing us to plan our errands around the few hours we have. The good thing about being home more is that we’re working on organizing and unpacking and creating a home that reflects us, which is SO much more than I can say for the last two homes we lived in!
I just ordered a few different floppy hats from Nordstrom and this one from Hinge has become a fast favorite! It has just the right amount of floppy and is small enough to not be super overwhelming or make me look like I belong at the Kentucky derby. It has a really cute braided little headband attached, but the second I took it out of the box I knew that it was meant for much bigger and better things.
I have been collecting headbands from my two favorite shops for a while now and realized that I was doing myself a disservice by only using them as such when I can get double duty out of them by tying one just above the brim of a hat! It completely changes up the look and adds a little extra color and pizzaz to an otherwise very basic hat!
The one I’m wearing here is is a from Bee Mine Sunshine (you may remember seeing it here and here) and I love that the navy and cream coloring have made this headband feel like my favorite pair of jeans or cutoffs – it just goes with everything. Make sure you’re following Marissa on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with all of her show dates, new fabric releases and sale information!
My dress is a recent score from Nordstrom Rack and it is definitely my husband’s favorite right now – he actually requested this entire outfit for our date night last weekend! I grabbed it for an awesome deal almost two months ago during one of their “clear the rack” clearance sales but hadn’t gotten around to wearing it because contrary to what the floating overlay may have you believe, there’s actually no easy access for breastfeeding and since H is still pretty attached 24/7, it sadly sat in my closet until we escaped for a date night. Overlay dresses are apparently pretty hot right now, and I am a HUGE fan. I love that it looks like I’m wearing separates, but its a foolproof outfit already put together, and almost has the feeling of a romper but is still easy and breezy like some of my favorite summer dresses. Mine is currently sold out at Topshop, but they still have so many cute options, or ASOS and Gap are littered with adorable choices too!
Have you ever repurposed one of your headbands as something else? If so, how? If not – are you feeling a little inspired now? I’d love to hear about it below!

Shannon

What an adorable outfit!! I love floppy hats as well and totally understand what you mean about getting one small enough that it is cute, but not big enough that it is for Derby day ;).

Haha, I'm glad you can commiserate!

Oh my gosh, Naomi you are so sweet! And YES! The rack is one of my favorite places to scour for deals – especially in their clearance section! I got the dress for $25 and its originally around $80!
