H has never been much of an eater, so we’ve really been working on cutting back on nursing sessions and trying to push the solids more. Usually, it ends in a lot of food thrown on the floor, lots of frustration and several deep calming breaths from yours truly. However, Nûby™ recently sent us some awesome toddler mealtime accoutrements that have been huge in helping my picky nibbler get more interested in sitting at the table, and as a result, in the last week, H has eaten more food than he probably has in the last month – yay!
One of H’s favorites from Nûby™ is the iMonster™ Toddler Plate. As he’s growling and using his iMonster™ Fork to stab his unsuspecting fruit victims, H loves pointing to the three big eyes on top and naming everything he can as he clears his plate:
“Noh” (nose)
“Tee” (teeth)
“Tohn” (tongue)
We’re currently working on “claws” to describe the three icky monster claws on either side that make it really easy for him to grip and take around with him, as he’s still a better eater when he grazes around the house.
After naming the iMonster™’s features, we always have H show us where his own eyes, nose, etc are, and then he likes to show us where ours are as well. I think its so fun that the iMonster™ plate is encouraging so much more than his eating – its encouraging his mind to make connections and is strangely enough helping him with his words as well.
Of the several we own, the iMonster™ fork and spoon set is probably H’s favorite to use. The brightly colored handles have the same eye trio the plate does, and are topped with cute little monster horns. H has no problems holding onto and keeping a grip on them, and the fork’s points are sharp enough to actually pierce and pick up food, but not so much so that I have to worry about a tornado of a toddler hurting himself with them.
As always, all of the above Nûby™ products are BPA free and easy to clean! Both the iMonster™ Toddler Plate and Fork and Spoon set are recommended for 18 months and up and will definitely help encourage your picky toddler to actually sit at the table and eat their meals!
I do wish that there was some type of no-slip grips on the bottom, as the plastic is a little slippery, but otherwise the little monster feet keep it very stable on whatever surface we put it on.
