Happy New Year!
Hello 2015! Where in the heck did you come from?! 2014 was a pretty amazing year for us so I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us!
Rather than make lofty resolutions that I tend to brush off and forget about for approximately 300 days out of the year, I’ve decided that for 2015 I’m going to start making monthly goals. Some will be easier than others, but I’m hoping that the smaller scale will make me less overwhelmed and the goals will be more attainable.
There are some small life changes I’d like to make overall this year //
– Save 10% of every paycheck for a downpayment on our next home. I know 10% isn’t much, but I’m going for longevity and every little bit counts!
– Be happier with less. I feel like we’re drowning in stuff: Magazines, knick knacks, clothes we never wear, toys, etc and it’s so stressful! I’m hoping that by streamlining and adopting a less is more approach, we can de-clutter and everything will be less hectic.
– Take more time for myself. I can count on less than one hand the number of times I’ve been somewhere without H or my husband, doing something that I want to do, just because. Whether it’s a yoga class or getting a massage or my nails done, I need a reminder that I’m more than just H’s mom or Zach’s wife and I deserve to have some me time.
– Take more time for my marriage. Once again, I can count on one hand the number of times Zach and I have done anything just the two of us, and it’s about time we get back to dating. We may be parents now, but we are a husband and wife first and foremost and like any great relationship, it needs fostering to grow.
– Travel one place this year that we’ve never been.
For January //
– Keep it together enough to not be a complete and total blubbering mess for H’s 1st birthday.
– Have ‘me time’ twice a week.
– Go on two dates.
– Do one random act of kindness.
– Buy a ticket to go home and visit my grandparents.
– Get rid of one bag of excess clothing / toys / whatever.
– Create a blog ‘schedule’.
– Figure out Google Analytics (I know, lame, but I’m having the hardest time trying to figure it out!).

I make the same resolution each year: travel more! This year I'm going to start doing little small monthly goals as well. I love the idea of saving 10% of your paycheck, I'm sort of doing that right now for my trip to Europe fund <3

The traveling more is one of my favorite goals 🙂 With a baby now, its become a little harder but 2014 was a year of lots of trips for us so I definitely accomplished it! Good luck with your europe fund!

Making monthly goals is such a great idea! Resolutions are hard to keep but goals are easier, especially if making smart goals! I'm still crafting my goals for the year ahead. Good luck with achieving yours!

You'd think GA would be easier, but for some reason I have such a hard time with it haha. My closet is overflowing so the cleaning is a necessity!

I love your idea of having monthly goals instead of yearly resolutions. That seems much easier to keep on top of. As far as 10% not being a lot, it does add up fast. Good luck with your goals. I hope 2015 is a great year for you.
Shannon says
Thank you so much! The 10% was a number that felt 'easy', because some months 20% just isn't possible and I figured that it was better to start small and be successful 🙂 Good luck!

I think the monthly goals is the way to go! i've been doing them last year and it's been helping me a lot! But I also like making resolutions bc I love lists in general. I just break them down into monthly goals too. 🙂 Can't wait to hear what dates you go on!
Shannon says
I LOVE lists too! I make them each morning and love crossing off the ones I get done 🙂 Thank you, and I hope 2015 is a great year for you!

Good luck with your goals! They are some
Great ones, I love the saving 10% for a down payment that's fabulous!

Thank you so much Jeanine! It's hard renting now, especially when we have already owned, so we're pretty ready to be homeowners again 🙂

You have a great list of goals here! Good luck completing them! I agree with so many of them – especially the working on my marriage thing. It's so hard once little ones come along, but you really have to make an effort! This is one of my goals too 🙂

These are some great goals! Good luck!

Great idea on saving 10% of every paycheck! I am going to do that as well but just put it in my savings for whatever may come up this year 🙂

Good luck with your January goals – as for being a blubbering mess… my son is turning 5 at the end of the month and it still happens!

I want travel more to be a resolution but it isn't ideal with my husband's career. Someday!!

Me time is SO important and SO easy to brush aside! These are all great and attainable goals, and I am excited for you to reach and be proud of them! Also, I like your blog's background patterns 🙂
