I’ll be the first to admit: with my first I was overwhelmed with the information out there regarding Baby Led Weaning (BLW). I wasn’t sure what foods are best to start BLW with. I was overwhelmed with what foods to avoid. And is it really safe to do BLW if baby doesn’t even have teeth? Thank goodness I had great mom friends who have been there before to help. They shared what worked for them, helpful suggestions, and calmed me when I was nervous about starting new foods. You’ll be surprised what a baby with no teeth can “eat”! Now that J’s almost 9 months with two bottom teeth, the kid can eat pretty much anything. I’m really excited to share some of our BLW journey with you all. I’ll cover baby led weaning breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas, things you need to know, and more. Please let me know if you have any questions along the way! This is a sponsored post and contains affiliate links. This comes at no extra cost to you, but helps keep MMD running. Thank you for your support! What is Baby Led Weaning? Baby led weaning is a newer way to introduce foods to your […]
This Father’s Day, whip up some deliciously easy Golden Grahams S’mores Candy Bark. No baking required, and chances are you already have everything you need in your pantry. Channel the days when cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner was a totally acceptable parent move with this sweet summertime treat. My husband has the biggest sweet tooth. Ever. He loved when I was pregnant and craving sweets with our first, because I couldn’t get enough sugar (sorry doc). He has definitely passed that trait onto our toddler too. H is just like his dad, and will do anything for a treat. Including potty training. Thank goodness! I love watching the two of them together right now. My husband had almost zero experience with babies and kids before we started growing our family. He was totally clueless when it came to newborns, and to be honest he was terrified. I remember one time in particular when he was getting H dressed on one of his first days. It took him almost 20 minutes to put a onesie on. These days, things look a little differently. Our youngest and I usually come downstairs to the two of them rolling around or wrestling, and throwing shirts […]
This post is sponsored by HelloFresh. I’m not much of a cook. I hate meal planning. There, I said it. Look, I have a 3 year old and a 7 month old. I have been very vocal about the fact that I am not a super mom. And admittedly, my husband is the cook in our family. But, he travels for work. A lot. Which means I’m left to my own devices while he’s away. So take out, home made pizzas and mac and cheese are my usual go-tos. And that’s fine. Except for the fact that my bank account takes a major hit and the mom guilt over feeding my toddler microwave meals starts taking over. Enter HelloFresh. I’ve tried my fair share of meal delivery services, and let me tell you, HelloFresh is the bees knees. I love that HelloFresh does my meal planning, grocery shopping, and most of the food prep for me. That just leaves me to do the minimal washing, slicing, and cooking. A far more attainable endeavor for this work from home mom. My parents, as far back as I can remember, always made sure I was actively involved when it came to dinnertime. Normally, I was […]
This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #EggoMyWay #CollectiveBias I’ve talked about it before, yet despite my best efforts, I have a picky eater for a toddler. We’ve exposed him to all sorts of different foods. Tried every trick in the book. Read every article I could find online. But nope, he knows what he likes and doesn’t deviate from that. On the plus side, he loves carbs and fruit, so at least that gives me options! In hopes that this may help some of you break out of your toddler breakfast rut, H and I are going to share a favorite with you today: Breakfast kebab skewers! These breakfasts on a stick are not only easy to make and customize to your toddler’s preferences, but they’re also great as toddler afternoon snacks. And thanks to Eggo’s new formulation that is free from artificial, you can feel good about what you’re giving your kiddo. Toddler Approved Fruit and Waffle Kebabs If you’re needing quick and easy breakfast or snack ideas, these skewers are just that. Literally only minutes to prepare and make, you can have a breakfast kebab in your child’s hand before their […]
Breastfeeding has made me not only hungrier than a teenage boy, but has also made my sweet tooth go crazy. Usually I reach for cookies, chocolate, candy – or let’s be honest, all of the above. However, that’s not working out so well for me anymore. Thanks to the weight I’ve gained the past few weeks, I set out to find a healthy green smoothie for breastfeeding moms that would satisfy my sweet tooth. And the result is pretty delicious. If I may say so myself… This Oatmeal Cookie Green Smoothie is super easy to prepare, and makes for a great breakfast on the go. Are you breastfeeding? Even better – this green smoothie is a perfect way for breastfeeding moms to get a little extra nutrition in and it has several ingredients that are great for breastmilk production! As an added bonus, this green smoothie also makes for a pretty awesome way to satisfy your sweet tooth without guilt. So feel free to make yourself one (or two…) and enjoy! Not a banana fan? That’s ok! You can skip that part. I just love the creamy texture it gives. To make this yummy green smoothie a *little* sweeter, you can always […]
Tis the season for holiday baking! And these snowman cookie brownie bites are a great way to get that started. Our snowman cookie brownie bites are a great way to get the kids involved in baking, and are sure to leave a smile on your face. So gather your family ’round, preheat that oven, and make your holidays a little sweeter with a simple and delicious treat. Some of my fondest memories involve baking in the kitchen with my parents. Popcorn balls, sugar cookies, peanut butter kiss cookies and more. You name it, we baked it. Some we kept, some we hand delivered to neighbors, and many ended up as quality control samples. By the end of our baking escapades, the kitchen was covered in sugar and flour and frosting. It was chaotic, but our bellies were full and we were happy. Bringing that tradition to my family now is one of my favorite things about the holiday season. I found this super cute snowman brownie recipe on Immaculate Baking Company’s website, and H begged to make them. With a little mix, frosting, and toppings, we created some pretty awesome holiday sweets that made me feel like quite the Pinterest mom. But […]
Easy blueberry cobbler (for the lazy baker in us all) Hello holiday season! If you’re like me, you love all the food that comes along with this time of year, but aren’t such a fan of the amount of time spent in the kitchen. This Blueberry Cobbler recipe is so easy a toddler can do it (literally, this is one of H’s favorite things to make), and with only three ingredients it’s foolproof! This super quick blueberry treat requires no prep time, just as long as it takes you to cut open a bag and use a can opener. Last minute houseguests and forgotten party invites that once sent you running to the store are no match! It’s actually one of our favorite lazy Sunday morning brunch recipes because of how easy it is to make, and how yummy it is to eat. Toddler Snack Ideas: Healthy Nibbles for the Picky Eater in Your Life Anyone else with a toddler who one day will eat anything you put in front of them, and the next will only eat cheese sticks? Anyone? Please say yes! This last month has been a total battle of the wills when it comes to H holding out on eating until he gets what he wants. Which he does, eventually, because I can’t make myself send him to naps or bedtime without something in his stomach. Because of this, I’ve been trying to come up with creative snack ideas that are both healthy, but also something he will actually eat. The first thing I did? Find awesome snack containers! I swear, put a peanut butter sandwich on a regular plate, and my toddler will push it away, but if it’s on a dinosaur plate, or his digger plate? Oh man, step back and watch him chow down. These Snack in the Box and Drink in the Box, made with TritanTM plastic, holders both delight H because they look cool, but also make me happy because they’re so durable and easy to clean! Do you need toddler snack inspiration? I’m sharing a […]
When you think Homestyle, what comes to mind? Is there a particular recipe? Is it a pasta recipe? Desert recipe? A special chicken dish recipe that is passed down from mother to child? For my family, visions of cooking with my parents in my childhood home pop up, and I immediately flash back to that skinny little galley kitchen. Additionally, I think of weekends at my Grandmother’s, all of us cousins fighting over the same stool that was closest to our Grammy, and helping her make her famous “Bark”. Homestyle cooking makes me think of long hours spent in front of the stovetop, stirring whatever dish it was that weekend we decided to cook up that day. Memories like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter – holidays where we focused almost more on the food and the company than the gifts. Thinking on these special homestyle dishes gives me such warm and happy feelings, I want to make sure that I continue that with my husband and son (and soon to be September baby!). I want to continue the traditions of putting more than just ingredients into a pot. It’s love and time and family tradition that makes something “Homestyle” to me!
