I’m sharing Febreze in my life as part of a sponsored series for Socialstars™
Happy National Pet Month!
If you’ve been following my Instagram for any amount of time, you know that our Pit Bull is the best. Clyde is seriously a saint. He let’s the boys roll and jump all over him. He lets them turn him into dinosaurs and kimono dragons. But my favorite is when he and H and J all roll up together to snuggle.
Adopting him from the Boise Bully Breed Rescue while I was pregnant with J was one of the best things we’ve ever done. He is more than just a dog, he is a part of our family. H constantly calls him his “best friend” to anyone who will listen. And one of J’s first sentences was “Clyde, need potty?”. Needless to say, we love him something fierce.
Making your home Pet-Friendly.
We have made a few modifications to our home for the kids. But more so for Clyde. His life before coming to us was not easy. So we want him to be at home and comfortable as much as possible.
But if you’ve ever lived with a dog, you know they stink. And that’s coming from a woman who lives with ALL BOYS. His breath stinks, he stinks, and thanks to the cotton-filled home we live in, so do most of the fabrics.
After the first year, I found a few tricks to help us out with the odors and unsuspecting yucks of living with a stinky, drooly, wonderful, snuggly, kind Pit Bull.
How to make your home pet friendly with kids.
First things first, we make sure that basically everything that comes into our home is washable. The laundry room is easily the most used in this house. Hands down. You’ve seen my Instagram stories of the seemingly insurmountable laundry piles. And there’s a recason. Technically – three. A four year old, an 18 month old and a big ole’ dog that loves to run and roll around outside.
Make sure your furniture is washable.
Right after we adopted Clyde, we bought a new couch. It was the perfect little sectional, and we vacuumed it constantly. When something spilled, I spot cleaned. When there were accidents, I spot cleaned. But when it came time to sell our house, a few people mentioned a “wet dog smell”, and we just couldn’t figure it out. And then the movers unloaded that perfect little sectional into our new house’s playroom. AND OH MY GOODNESS IT STUNK.
I remember the first time I opened the door, the wet dog smell hit me in the face. And it was completely coming from the “perfect little couch”. I couldn’t believe it – I spot cleaned that couch like crazy! I was diligent with keeping it nice. BUT nothing was truly washable. There were no zip-off covers. The only way of cleaning was with a washcloth or brush and a little mild soap. And no matter how well I scrubbed and cleaned, it still managed to smell like our Pit Bull, Clyde.
So when we moved *again*, our first purchase was a new couch. One with REMOVABLE and WASHABLE covers. And let me tell you, it has been world changing. No matter whether it’s Clyde or the kids’ messes, it all disappears. Once a month, we take the covers off and throw it in the washing machine. I tumble dry on low, and we make a game of putting the covers back on. And so far my husband wins the fastest award, but that’s neither here nor there.
Being able to wash the covers has been AWESOME. It keeps everything so much cleaner – both in smell and a visible way. And because our couch is so comfortable, sweet Clyde loves to perch himself in the corner on the pillows. Thank goodness the pillow covers are washable too.
I first got the idea with our new leather sofa. When we bought our new gorgeous leather sofa, we definitely splurged. But within the first day of having it in our house, the seats were starting to show every mark the kids and Clyde would leave. So I went on the hunt for a solution.
$5 and the most beautiful Mexican woven blanket later, my problems were solved. I tucked it around the sofa cushions, leaving the back cushions exposed, and I noticed a few things. One, it protected the leather from any type of scratches. Including Clyde’s. Two, it brought some wonderful new color into the house. And was just what I was looking for.
I am admittedly a very cheap woman when it comes to shopping. And have a very hard time buying new. So this brand new leather couch was a huge leap for me, but it was so perfect we had to have it. And now with a simple solution like a blanket to cover the seat cushions, I can breathe a little easier.
Febreze ONE for pets.
Speaking of breathing easier… Febreze ONE has been instrumental in keeping my home smelling fresh. You can read about my love of Febreze ONE here: from Potty training, to home selling, to everything in between. It just… gets me.
But in all seriousness, this Febreze ONE stuff is fantastic. One spritz of the handle will give me the perfect short spritz for a quick refresh. But if things are a little on the smelly side, three pumps of the handle and I get just the right amount of a continuous spray. For my large, cotton, L shaped sectional, I do two three-pump sprays: one for each “leg” of the couch. And instantly, any lingering odors are GONE. KAPUT. DONE FOR.
Febreze ONE for fabric and air is my go-to for combating the dog-stink. If you’re a pet owner, you know what I’m talking about. No matter how often you get them groomed, or wash them yourself. We give Clyde a bath several times a month, and still he just smells like dog. We even stepped it up to once a week, and it didn’t make a difference. Dogs just smell. It’s just life as a pet owner.
So, now is an even more important time to have my Febreze ONE on me. Especially considering there’s a high likelihood of us moving again within the year. I don’t want comments about “wet dog smell” at our open house.
A few sprays, and Febreze ONE attacks odors and removes them from not only the air, but almost all the fabrics and surfaces in my home as well. A gentle and light Bamboo scent, but a powerful odor attacker. Anytime, anywhere. Febreze ONE is a versatile overachiever that I always keep stocked.
