Becoming a parent changes us in so many ways, both expected and unexpected. Having a baby is hard, and not just on yourself, but on your relationships with your partner, family, friends, and more. I am so fortunate to have found a man who is right there by my side through all the messy parts of parenthood, and who has never wavered - even with the times get rough. I speak on my personal feelings with all the triumphs and tribulations that Motherhood brings, but I don't really speak much about my husband and his role. Of the two of us, I think parenthood has hit him the hardest, as he didn't have any experience with a newborn, baby or toddler before we had H, so it has been incredible to watch him grow into the father he is today.
Because of this, I'm really excited to team up with Linqia and the Gerber Brand today to have my husband share a few of his thoughts on what makes Fatherhood all worth it to him, in his own words. In honor of Father's Day and all that he has done for our little family, I recruited one of my favorite local photographers, McKenna Rachelle Photography, to do a Father's Day photoshoot for us, which I thought would go perfectly with his post!
From the Hubs:
"Working the day away, dealing with the stresses of adulthood and travel have always worn on me, but after Harrison was born I soon realized why I did it all. There is nothing that gets me out of a bad mood or funk faster than opening up the front door and seeing my son playing with his cars or outside running in the sprinklers; it brings you back to that simpler time when you yourself were a goofy kid, and wanted to spend time playing with your father. The stresses soon clear my head and a hug and kiss crush any bad feelings I had during the long day spent without him. We make dinner together, eat, and put on our PJ’s, then head upstairs to bed. Laying with him and reading his favorite books (that I now have memorized) until he’s sound asleep isn't always easy, but when I steal one last kiss and tip toe out of his bedroom, it’s hard not to think once more that it’s all worth it.Harrison and I have a special routine on the weekends where we wake up and let mom sleep in. Together we clean and make mom waffles before we get her up for the day and, again, looking down at the “mini me” holding my hand it’s hard not to think it’s all worth it, even when the kitchen is a little more messy thanks to my small 'helper'.
I guess long story short there isn’t a day that goes by (no matter if he’s been a butthead or not) that I don’t think it’s all worth it; because he makes me a better father just as my wife makes me a better husband, and they both make me a better man."
Yes, I am that lucky woman who gets to sleep in on the weekends while my two favorite dude's spend quality time together! It's so sweet to hear their voices together coming from the living room, playing blocks, dinosaurs, cars, or whatever the game of the morning is. The Hubs works so hard to provide such a good life for us, and is an amazing partner to have by my side to do this whole parenting thing with together.
What do you think makes it "all worth it" as a parent? What are your special plans for Father's Day?
Thank you to Gerber for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring my husband to share the moments that make it all worth it!
