If you're anything like me, you've got at least half a dozen Burt's Bees beeswax lip balms floating around the bottom of your bags, car, and in random draws. I have yet to find any other lip balm that comes anywhere close to the lasting moisturizing capabilities of Burt's Bees, so I was super excited when I heard they were creating a new line of lipsticks, and even better - they were going to be available at Target!
As soon as my local Target showed they had stock in the new Burt's Bees lipsticks, I packed up my two dudes and headed over. I was really excited to see that all 14 shades were finally there and had their own display in the beauty section so they were really easy to find and fawn over. While the Hubs chased H around the 'Jay, I looked at and tested every color until I could narrow it down, which was harder said than done, because have you SEEN the different shades? There are way too many good ones! Plenty of nudes and pinks and gorgeous reds that would definitely work all year long and flatter any skin tones.
After recruiting the Hubs to help me make my final decision, I chose my two favorites: Nile Nude and Russet River. Nile Nude looked like the perfect neutral that I could wear everyday, and I loved the Fall-esque hint of brown that is the Russet River color. I also thought that the two new colors from Burt's Bees would look really lovely if I layered them together, so really I was getting three colors instead of two!
I couldn't help myself and started playing around with the lipsticks as soon as I got home. I'm not shy about the fact that I like to know what's going on my body, and tend to pay a little more attention to the ingredients in the products I use now than I used to. One of the things I love about Burt's Bees is their commitment to natural products, and these new lipsticks are no exception. The ingredients are not only 100% natural, but also words I can actually pronounce, and they all make sense: Moringa, Raspberry Seed Oil, Beeswax, Vitamin E. Haven't heard of Moringa? It's an awesome oil that is chalk full of fatty acids to help soften and condition, while the Raspberry Seed Oil works to improve elasticity. So the two in conjunction work the entire time you're wearing the lipstick to keep your lips looking and feeling like perfection.
With the heat constantly on in our house, it is super dry. I've been totally OD'ing on lip balm, but still have a nervous habit of picking my lips when they get dry and it's the worst. I haven't been able to wear lipsticks for the last two months because they seem to make my lips not only look drier, but also zaps them of moisture. This was another huge reason why I was excited to try Burt's Bees lipsticks - I had experience with how soothing and moisturizing their products were, both for lip and body, and had high hopes for their new product.
I can very happily report that the lipsticks did not disappoint! After getting H up and making breakfast, I put on Nile Nude and a little mascara and we went out for chores. By lunchtime (so about 4 hours later), my color was still there and my lips still felt like I was wearing nothing other than an awesome lip balm. When I hit around six hours, I did notice that the Nile Nude had faded to a super light tint, but that was through lots of eating and snacking so I'm calling it a success. The Russet River seemed to last a little bit longer, but I'm thinking that might be moreso because it's a darker color so it's easier to see? Either way, my lips feel way more moisturized after I wear it, so color me impressed!
